book a Spanish Course in Nerja
Encircled by rugged mountains to the north
and the blue waters of the medditerranean to the south, Nerja,
has a relaxed atmosphere typical of Andalucia. A rich cultural
heritage mixed with all the trappings of a modern day beach
resort makes Nerja an ideal destination for the young and old
alike.
History
Older, whiter and more charming than the
towns to the west, Nerja is a busy tourist town which has grown
considerably since the 1960s. The Balcon de Europa lookout point
in the centre of town has good coastal views and the best beach
is Playa Burriana on the east side of town. The town is located
approximately 50 minutes east of Malaga by bus or car.
Climate
The temperatures normally range from 15°C
to 35°C. In Andalucia there are plenty of warm, sunny days
right through winter. However, in July and August, temperature
inland can get unpleasant, unless you are high enough in the
mountains.
Day Trips
Cueva de Nerja
This is the big tourist attraction of Nerja. Located 3 km east
of the town, this enormous set of caverns was hollowed out by
water around 5 million years ago. They were originally inhabited
by Stone Age hunters around 15000 BC. The cave is open daily
from 10.30am to 2pm and 3.30pm to 6pm.
Frigiliana
Approximately 7 kms inland from Nerja, is a very pretty traditional
white-washed Andalucian village, and well worth a visit.
Granada
Granada, famous for La Alhambra, is a beautiful Moorish City,
less than 2 hours from Nerja by bus and definitely worth a visit.
Seville
About 4 hours from Nerja, is another fascinating city and boasts
one of the largest cathedrals in the world. This city is perfect
for wandering, especially in the old Jewish quarter with its
